This week’s installment of Ecommerce Eye Candy comes from Monetate, a provider of marketing optimization services.
The infographic touches upon a paramount ecommerce concern: the checkout process. Of course, we all want visiting shoppers to fill our well-designed carts with products from our software catalogs and submit payment for that privilege.
Testing the efficacy of different shopping cart elements tells you what works and what doesn’t work. Armed with a sophisticated understanding of conversion rates, software vendors can optimize their customers’ shopping experience, decreasing abandonment and increasing revenue.
The meat of this piece lies in the 11 elements of a “perfect checkout page” and the 11 “Do’s and Don’ts” of a checkout process. One thing I wanted to see but did not find was a recommendation to include information about how the product is delivered. Don’t assume your customer knows their product is not physical and that it is delivered electronically through email, etc. Rather, state the delivery method explicitly.
Regarding the “Do’s and Don’ts” section, the infographic includes eight positive actions you can take to encourage conversion and three discouraging tactics to avoid, including one of our favorite shopping cart prohibitions: Don’t force customers to register.
Remember to use the comment section to let us know what tips and tricks you use to decrease shopping cart abandonment.
